Tireless April...

Shame on me, but the spring time air has kept me astray, but I have returned to update my loving blog. April and May, as you outdoors enthusiasts know, is the months where stars fill our eyes, and we are busy as bees! Everything needs to be pruned, planted, watered, drained, prepared, fertilized, a weed pulled here, a weed pulled there, a weed pulled every where. We are jumping through hoops to make sure we have yet another successful year.

A common snapper saved this morning from a road. Apologies for the horrid photo quality, it was taken with my camera phone.

We have seen a dramatic rise in wildlife on campus as well, which excites us here in the Grounds Department! It also gives me lots of opportunities to explore them here in my blog, so keep following! Also, we have also seen a dramatic rise in rescues, turtles on the roads, frogs in drains, birds in buildings, a nest here, a nest there, a nest everywhere! We have been saving lots of animals from the four-wheeled monster and the depths of spillway drains!

We also have a lot of great events we help set-up and assist with such as the upcoming outdoor film this Friday, they are showing the Muppet's! We are always flattered when blankets are thrown on our grass for a picnic or relaxing evening outside! And of course the event for us food gluttons, Rhythm and Ribs, coming May 18th,  is becoming another S.C.C. successful tradition as well.

What is a successful year? To us it is being able to look back at our campus and be proud of the hard work we put in to make it as beautiful, as safe, as welcoming, and as academic facilitating as possible. Let me tell you I have visited other facilities with more money, better tools, and more staff than us here at S.C.C., but not near the pride, effort, nor outcome. We have a recipe for success here at S.C.C. for every department, and I think trust and support is a big part of the secret, and we see that in our facilities, in our staff, in our faculty, and in our students. How lucky am I to be amongst this wonderful community.

Now for my bias to show; Our Grounds Department consists of the most hardworking and special people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. In the coming weeks as we see the trees look a little nicer, and the turf a little greener, and the flowers carefully installed, it will be hard to challenge our pride for S.C.C., but I repeat; I am a bit biased.

Well we have lots to discuss in the coming months. Please get out of your offices and classrooms and enjoy this spring air we often take for granted and explore the campus inside and out! We are all neighbors in this beautiful community called S.C.C. I'll see you outside!
