SCC Green Events...

Linden, Tilia damage, near LRC. Porter©
"Droughts, beetles, and hail oh my!" There is so much going on down here in the grounds department it is tough to decide what to blog about next. We are currently in the midst of a terrible Japanese Beetle infestation, eating many of our beloved trees on campus, and we recently went a little too long with out rain, damaging much of our turf and trees. I hope to find time in the future to cover these topics a little more in depth.

I would like to, however, discuss a couple of great events coming up this weekend here at SCC, and some other things I hope to partake in the coming weekend.

First and foremost, this coming this Friday evening is an outside film on SCCs campus on the hill overlooking the lake near the Technology building, they are showing a great film very dear to any tree-geeks heart, The Lorax! The film begins at 8:00 PM, but why not show up early and enjoy dinner on a blanket?

Saturday is SCC's Living Green Expo! This event has lots of really cool vendors and displays. There are even workshops planned, as well as Segway Rides! I have a Segway ride on my list of things to do that day! St. Louis Science Center also plans on having their EVie display there, which is another do not miss! And most importantly for those of us that have electronic recycling ($10 fee for CRT's and T.V.'s,) this is the place to do it, and the entire event is FREE!

There is  also a SCC 25th Anniversary celebratory Tree Planting happening Saturday to kick off the Living Green Expo. The planting will take place in the campus plaza, near the Library at 10:00 a.m. There is also a rumor there just might be some free trees for some of those that attend...

Sunday I am taking a Kayaking class that is offered by the SCC Continuing Education department. They have multiple dates for this particular class, so if you are interested feel free to check it out. I will be sure to discuss it in upcoming blogs!

As you can see, there is a lot going on down here, and a lot of exciting things happening here at SCC! Have a great week. I will see you outside!
